Rock Band!

Get ready for a radically different kind of class! Join other friendly, excited and music-loving New Yorkers in a band situation. Choose, rehearse and arrange songs under the guidance of an expert instructor, and work as a team toward a performance on stage in a New York City nightclub (past venues have included Arlene Grocery, Sidewalk Cafe, Hanks Saloon, Kenny's Castaways, Underscore, The Delancey and more.)

Choose the Rock Band 101 Class if you have little to no experience playing in a band or group before. You should have completed the Advanced Beginners class or have a working knowledge of barre chords; mastery of rhythm techniques, including basic palm muting; and a basic understanding of song structure.

Choose the Intermediate Rock Band Class if you do have experience playing in a band or group before. Be comfortable with barre chords, mixed rhythms, single note lines, etc.

Choose the Advanced Rock Band Class if you have experience playing in a band or group before and are PDG (pretty damn good) for a non-professional. You'll need to be recommended by a NYCGS teacher or, if you are not our student, to come in for an audition.

Some bands rehearse in our own, no-frills but perfectly adequate and fully-equipped studio space. We call those BASIC bands. Other bands rehearse in a rented, deluxe, fully-equipped professional rehearsal room in our building Those are DELUXE bands. Either way you'll have a great time!

-Discounts- Rock Bands are driven by three things - current students, friends, and drummers! So check below to see if you're eligible for a discount.*

- Sign up with a friend or be a returning student 10% off
- Be the drummer $80 off

* Only one discount per person.

-Disclaimers- Adult Rock Band at NYC Guitar School is like no other program! Here's how we're able to make it work!

1. We will always try to book five students into a band, but it takes at least four including a drummer to rock! Bands with less than four people will be rescheduled one to two weeks later while we get more people signed up. Bands that have been re-scheduled once and are still short on members will be cut and students will either receive refunds or be placed in other bands.

2. Be open-minded and ready to work with those who may have differing approaches to the creative process. Just like real rock stars, bands are subject to having creative differences! Chilled-out attitudes are welcome.

3. Each band is a one-of-a-kind assortment of people and songs which will never occur again in this time/space continuum--so there are no refunds or credits!

4. Everybody deserves to have a say in the set list! Each student should plan on suggesting three songs they'd like to play, and the band as a group will pick one song from each student. (But the teacher may veto songs based on playing level, arrangement, difficulty, etc.) FAQS

NYC Guitar School Rock Band Performance 5-22-10 at the Delancey.
Whiskey Tango Foxtrot - "Low"
Major Dave Andersen, Kirsi Carl, Joey Coyle, and Suzanne Leeds.

"It's the best way to get real experience without having to get your own band together, schedule rehearsals, then try to book a gig."
- Steve, Guitar

"I played in a band for 6 months in London. This allowed me to get right back where I left off. Our teacher has given us a really good direction. Every week puts a smile on my face!"
- Mike, Guitar

"It's the only class of its kind, especially for drummers! You have the opportunity to play with others in a supportive atmosphere."
- Andrea, Drums

"It helps us escape the pressures of work and live out our dreams."
- Brian, Guitar

"Playing music is really about getting together and playing with other people. When you do that, it forces you to think more critically about playing and how it fits with what everyone else is playing."
- Karl, Guitar

"I've always wanted to be in a rock band and this is my first opportunity...and it's really fun!"
- Steve, Guitar

"I feel like I'm growing my hair back and I'm 20 again."
- Shaun, Bass

"It's a much different learning experience than regular classes because you are learning to play with other musicians."
- Aaron, Guitar

"It totally rocks!"
- David, Guitar
