Peter Douskalis
Peter Douskalis is a guitarist from the Washington DC area now living in New York City. He specializes in many aspects of the guitar such as jazz, classical, rock, and world. Peter currently teaches at the New York City Guitar School.
In late 2009 Peter Douskalis released his second album “The Dance of the Sea”. The CD is a solo jazz guitar record and is Peter’s first as a solo artist. The CD is featured on independent record label Shenandoah Records. The CD is distributed by Guitar Nine Records, Amazon.com, CDbaby.com, and electronically by iTunes.
Peter Douskalis is also a part of the Peter and Alex Guitar Duo and has been performing in the Virginia, Maryland, and DC areas for several years. The duo released their debut album “Midnight Madrid” in 2007.
Peter Douskalis graduated from the Conservatory of Shenandoah University with a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies. Currently he attends the New York University for his graduate degree in Music Education. He has composed works for the theatre departments at both George Washington University and Westfield High School and also regularly performs in the pit orchestra for musicals. He was recently the guest guitarist for the “The Wiz”, which was featured on ABC/Disney's “The Making of a High School Musical”.
Peter Douskalis has appeared on the “Different Voices” television program, which broadcasts on channels 35 and 56 on Time Warner Cable in New York City. In July of 2010 Peter will be the featured performer on the television program “Minding Your Business” on channel 57 of Time Warner Cable in New York City. Peter has also appeared on Loudoun County Channel 3 and Fairfax County Channel 21 in Virginia.
Peter Douskalis’ music has been heard nationally and internationally on radio programs such as “KSKA public radio” 91.1fm Alaska, “Fret Net – PBS” 106.7fm Australia, “Pulse of the Planet” 98.3fm Spain, “Kanal-Jazz” streaming online radio France, and online radio program BreakawayNetRadio.com.
Peter Douskalis is also an artist of the music gear marketing website GearDemo.com. GearDemo is a site that allows consumers to watch videos of musicians demonstrating and explaining the equipment they use.
Peter Douskalis regularly performs on the concert stage. He has opened concerts for rock and roll hall of famer Percy Sledge, blues guitarist Johnny A, Michael Fath, and was also the featured performer at the European Union’s 50th anniversary event hosted at the German Embassy. Through his involvement with the Shenandoah Conservatory Jazz Ensemble, Peter has had the opportunity to perform with jazz legends Chuck Redd, Bob Cranshaw, Houston Person, Mickey Roker, and Tamir Hendelman, as well as trumpeter Jens Lindemann.
Peter Douskalis has studied under several influential teachers and performers such as internationally acclaimed guitarist Michael Fath and former Airmen of Note jazz guitarist Rick Whitehead.
Peter Douskalis plays a Gibson ES-175, Fender Stratocaster, Ovation Celebrity, and an Alvarez Yiari.
