Level I: Basic Strumming, Chording, and Riffing
Take the NYC Guitar School's Level I Rock Guitar class home with you!
Play each Level I warm-up along with the video...and prepare to rock.
Each video starts out at a simple 60 beats per minute, and gets progressively faster...moving up to 80 beats
per minute, 100 beats per minute, then finally 120 beats per minute! To graduate to Level II, you'll need to be
able to play all of the warm-ups correctly at the fastest speed.
Intro/Tuning
No one sounds like an amazing guitar player unless their guitar is tuned!
Phase I - Spider
Warm up your fingers by moving around the fretboard! In this warm-up, you'll work on your picking skills and get comfortable fretting notes on all six strings.
Phase I - D Chord Build-Up
Chords are the basis of most of your favorite songs...and the D chord is one of the most widely used chords around. In this warm-up, you will practice build a D chord from scratch!
Phase I - G Chord Strums
If you learn to play the G chord, you learn to play thousands of songs! Start here by playing along with this strumming pattern.
Phase II - Spider
Advance your picking skills in the next level of the Spider warm-up!
Phase II - Flatpicking Frenzy
Having awesome picking technique is the foundation of great lead guitar playing...among other things! In this warm-up, you'll learn to pick the individual strings of a D chord.
Phase II - G Chord Strums
Playing in rhythm is the secret to great guitar playing. Hone your rhythm skills in this warm-up exercise.
Phase III - Spider
This spider exercise is the toughest yet! Try it out! ...and good luck!
