When Alex Rubin was seven years old, his guitar playing father gave him a guitar and a method book. We are happy to report that Alex has not put down the guitar since! He played guitar (and trombone!) through out middle school and high school, then attended the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam, where he earned his Bachelor of Music degree in Classical Guitar Performance. Alex isn't just a great classical player--he is a highly skilled rock guitarist as well! While in Potsdam Alex won the lead guitarist spot with established local rock band Fallopian Groove. Fallopian Groove was a dance oriented, highly improvisational rock group. Through his classical guitar studies and his work with "FG", Alex honed his songwriting, arranging, improvisation and ensemble skills, while teaching a growing number of students as well. After college, Alex moved to New Paltz in upstate New York to teach guitar full time while playing with several local bands and working as guitarist-for-hire. While upstate, Alex helped up to 40 students a week improve their guitar skills at local music retailer Let's Jam. Students of all ages and levels found him to be a passionate and effective teacher! We are delighted to welcome him to New York City Guitar School, where he brings his massive guitar knowledge, commitment and professionalism to our students. Alex now lives and works in Queens and is currently teaching and playing with his new band, Juicy Bruce.
