Jessica Ackerley

In the past decade, Jessica Ackerley has already established herself on the Canadian and American jazz scene as a unique guitarist and composer. Born and raised in Alberta, Canada; Jessica holds undergraduate degrees from Grant MacEwan and St. Francis Xavier University as well as a Master's in Jazz Performance from Rutgers University. Mentors throughout her musical growth include Todd Neufeld, Tyshawn Sorey, Zakir Hussain, Vic Juris, and Lorne Lofsky among others. She has toured the east coast of Canada with her avante garde bass-less trio, Being Small is Convenient! and regularly performs at various venues with her trio, featuring a repertoire of all her original compositions. Present projects include her New York based rock band, TaMarin, and JBDC Trio, an all female free jazz group featuring harp, voice and guitar.
